We practice baptism by immersion (“dunking”) for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior. We believe that only those who have trusted Christ as Savior should be baptized. Baptism is the first step of obedience for a Christian. Therefore, we don’t baptize babies or those who have not placed their faith in Christ. Baptism is a public statement of belief in Jesus Christ. The picture of baptism by immersion includes death, burial and resurrection. Baptism by immersion is a beautiful picture of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. At the same time, it is a beautiful picture of the salvation that Christ brings. As the candidate for baptism is standing in the water it is a picture that their old life without Christ has died; under the water means that the old life is buried; and up from the water pictures new life with Christ. Baptism is showing people on the outside what Jesus did on the inside.
